Binder Do’s and Don’ts

Do:

  • Drink plenty of water while wearing a binder
  • Take it off if your chest starts to hurt your chest
  • Take it off after 8 hours of wearing
  • Wash the binder weekly
    • Handwashed in cold water with a gentle detergent
    • Let the binder air dry
  • Stretch regularly while binding
  • It is good to force cough regularly to ensure your lungs aren’t being compressed to much

Dont:

  • Bind with an Ace Bandage
  • Wear the binder longer than 8 hours
  • Layer binders with sports bras
  • Exercise in the binder

Alternatives

  • Nike’s Athletic sports bras are a good alternative for binding. Its not as compressive as a binder but it does its job
  • Compression shirts by most athletic companies are good for long term wear. They provide more compression than a sports bra, but they wear out a lot quicker.
